Lawmaker says proposed
energy rules 'unfair' to South |
|
Montgomery

Several
state officials said they are concerned that federal
energy proposals would hurt the South, leading to
increased energy rates and dampened economic
development. They believe the legislation, which
would require electric providers to generate a
certain percentage of their energy from renewable
sources, would allow other states to count
alternative energy they currently provide including
wind and solar.

Rep. Greg Wren Comments on Alabama's
Energy Strategy*
|
|
Gas prices in Alabama will
soon soar over $4 per gallon and our citizens
are concerned each time their gas tank runs dry or
their farm equipment needs to be filled with fuel.
We can waste our time pointing fingers and finding
someone else to blame, but the fact is we cannot meet
our own energy demands.

Local Bills Win Passage |
|
By Markeshia Ricks Bills that would validate Montgomery's red- light camera enforcement program and establish a development authority for the Interstate 65 corridor are on their way to the governor's desk after receiving final passage in the waning days of the legislative session. The bills, along with one that gives the county probate judge the ability to appoint certain employees as temporary judges, were the last of the agreed-upon bills that the county delegation wanted to get passed during the 2009 legislative session. The delegation chairman, state Rep. Greg Wren, said that despite some glitches during change in the leadership for the city and the county, important legislation was passed. read article

Sales Tax Fairness Act of 2009 HB 482 by Representative Wren
|
|
Regarding the state sales tax on food HB482 The State Sales Tax Fairness Act of 2009 will simply remove 1 percent of the current state sales tax on food in each year the previous year's Education State Trust Fund (EFT) growth exceeded 3 percent. If Alabama's EFT growth would exceed 3 percent for 4 consecutive years, then the entire 4 percent sales tax would be repealed within 5 years - without linking the graduated repeal of the to any increase on any Alabama Taxpayer. more
